Organized religion around the world has been slipping into the hands of extremists. When I see footage of kids whipped into a fury at a Christian Rock Concert eager for the "war to win back America" and to "turn America back to the Christian Nation its founding fathers intended," I fear for my safety.
What would those kids do to me if I stood before them as a proud Atheist, like the founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin? What would they say to the non-Christian Native Americans who created the representative form of government that our State-and-Federal system is based on? What would they say to the secular humanist philosophers who drew on the pre-Christian democracies of Greece and Rome for their inspiration to take up arms against the British Theocracy?
